Some Are Born Naturals

I was looking through old photos the other day and found one of my son when he was about four years old. He’s standing in the yard, arm cocked way back, ready to fire the pitch of his life. On his head? A Detroit Tigers cap.

He was born here in California, but he’s always followed my home team — a little piece of my own story passed down without me even trying.

Some are born naturals. Others need a little push, a lot of nurturing, and more than a few reminders. They both deserve the same dignity.

That picture made me think about how we grow, learn, and become who we are. Some people are born naturals. Others need a little push, a lot of nurturing, and more than a few reminders.

The truth is, both deserve the same dignity.

Whether it’s baseball, business, or life, talent comes in different forms and on different timelines. Our job as parents, mentors, and friends is to meet people where they are — to celebrate the naturals and stand beside the ones still finding their swing.

Because in the end, it’s not just about the pitch they throw. It’s about the person they become.
